Badges Explained

Badges tell you something specific about a company, and each one has a rule you can read here. Earned badges are awarded automatically and cannot be bought. Verified means our team confirmed the business contact. Plan badges show that a company pays for an Emerald, Ruby or Diamond plan: extra profile features and a chance at the labeled sponsor places in map searches. They say nothing about workmanship.

Earned badges

Awarded automatically when a listing meets the public rule below. They cannot be bought and are re-checked daily.

Verified

Verified means our team confirmed the business phone or email reaches the company named in the listing. It is not a license check, an insurance check or a quality judgment. Any listing can request it free; Diamond plans get it done proactively.

Plan badges and sponsor labels

Emerald listing Ruby listing Diamond listing show that a company pays for a plan that adds profile features (logo, bio, services, more photos, quote form, specials). In a map search the first place is labeled "Diamond Sponsor", the second "Ruby Sponsor" and the third "Emerald Sponsor": those three places are paid, and a sponsor only gets one when it serves the area searched and fits the request. Plans never change star ratings, the reputation score, review order or moderation. "Featured" placement is paid and is always labeled.

What badges do not mean

No badge is a license check, an insurance check, a background check or a guarantee of workmanship. Verify a contractor’s license with your state board, ask for the insurance certificate, read the reviews, and get three written bids. Our contractor guide walks through every step.

If you believe a badge is shown in error, use the report link on the company profile or contact us.
